DataCore Software announced it has entered into a Technology Partner Alliance with Vizioncore. DataCore also announced that is has co-authored a white paper with Vizioncore explaining how to deploy a complete solution for implementing an offsite backup that delivers full-fledged disaster recovery (DR). This solution combines two best-of-breed products: Vizioncore's vRanger Pro and SANmelody from DataCore Software Corporation.

In a move that will put pressure on EMC's VMware unit, Hitachi is claiming to have a mainframe-derived firmware approach to virtualization that's better than VMware or Xen or Microsoft. The approach has been built into a new species of Hitachi's blade servers called BladeSymphony with Virtage.

SoftLayer has advanced its backend systems, upgrading its fully redundant data warehouse storage arrays and adding an application layer processing cluster to enable a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). The data warehouse expansion included the installation of multi-petabyte storage arrays from EqualLogic (now Dell) in its Dallas, Seattle, and, when launched, Washington D.C. facilities to serve as the backend data storage powering all of SoftLayer's on-demand service offerings. Servers from SuperMicro provide the processing power for the new SOA infrastructure.

Transitive Corporation announced the availability of QuickTransit for the Solaris operating system (OS) on SPARC to Solaris on x86/64 systems. In addition, this latest product in the QuickTransit enterprise product line has achieved the Solaris Ready Logo certification from Sun. To complement this release, Transitive and Sun are investigating the development of future QuickTransit versions capable of running native x86 applications on SPARC-based platforms without modification to source code or binaries.
